Matei Visniec is a Paris-based poet. playwright, novelist, and journalist who works for Radio France Internationale. Born and raised in Romania, he studied philosophy there and started writing prose, poetry, and drama in his twenties. As his texts were banned under the Ceausescu regime, he applied for asylum in France in 1987. He has written more than 50 plays (mostly in French) and his productions have been performed all over the world.
